This time around, the ending will be decided by our moral. I recommend checking this game after playing through 2033, because both games have two endings – Last Light starts a year after one certain ending, that I would not like to spoil. The second delay was obviously tied to finding a new publisher, but thankfully, Deep Silver picked up the assets and ran with them. Originally it would have been released in 2012, but most likely the reason behind the two delays (the second one announced in March, stating the May release) was none other than THQ’s slow death. This game had quite a problematic birth, to be honest. Because of the lowered difficulty, even beginners can now take a look at what the metro lines have in offer for Ayrtom.

This makes 2033 look much sharper compared to the PS3 release of 2010. On the positive side, the lighting got a huge tune-up, which is definitely a plus. Of course, you can still die, if you end up reloading at the worst possible time! You can also feel the difficulty in your hand as well because let’s face it: you will have more ammunition than in the original. The developers were trying to get the two games together, to not have a huge difference between them. Gameplay-wise, the stealth parts didn’t give me problems this time around, probably because of the lowered difficulty. This is something that our Ukrainian friends could have worked a bit more on. They do look dated, they seem to still look closer to 2010 than to 2014. The characters’ look was the thing that caught my attention. I don’t find the gameplay the problem (survival horror, breaking gas masks, fighting for our lives, while something we get scared – good, in fact, it’s great), but instead the technical presentation. The 2010 game feels slightly… awkward four years later.

True, both of 4A Games‘ products have performed very well, but I think it should have been released a little later.ĭon’t get me wrong, I don’t say that it’s weak technically: Metro Redux runs absolutely fine on 60 frames per second in 1080p – something that the PC version can’t really cut, especially if the supersamplinged antialiasing is maxed out as well -, but if you played with both titles earlier, then I would only recommend buying it if you’re interested in this franchise. The game has some outdated design choices, but nothing major.I think that it starts to be too often to see current generation consoles getting remastered/remake titles from the past two or three years instead of brand new games. It made me go out of my way to explore every inch to see if I could at least get a single extra bullet, a few seconds of filter or some medkits if I was running low on them. However, feeling unsafe wasn't mainly because of the recoil, oppresive atmosphere and other stuff, it was because of how little ammo and resources there are in the game like "getting excited because you found 10 bullets" levels of scarceness. The gameplay itself was pretty good too, it reminded me of Splinter Cell with its "stay in the dark" mechanics and the huge ammount of recoil in the weapons added to the feeling of constant danger. It also helps that it's atmosphere is top notch, I don't think that (besides some of the stations) I've ever felt safe even when there were no enemies and I had an AI by my side. I was also surprised by the fact that at least during my playthrough, the framerate was rock-solid and I rarely encountered any bugs. I know it's a remaster so they obviously tweaked some things, but it can totally pass as an early current-gen game. Let's start with something that shocked me quite a bit at first: how good it looked while running at 1080p 60FPS on a PS4. Could it be because I'm terrible at handling tension in games? Probably, but straight to the point: I finally started them a few days ago and now I see why everyone loves the series. I've had the Metro Redux collection for quite some time now, but for some reason I never dived into the games.
